An increase in advertising by U.S. attorneys seeking new clients since mediation talks began will likely add to the litigation, the German drugs and chemicals giant said in an emailed statement. The current number of plaintiffs could exceed 45,000, compared with Bayer’s last estimate of 18,400 in July, analysts from JPMorgan Chase & Co. wrote in a note last week.

look at this update on the cases (Bloomberg) -- Bayer AG said it anticipates a “significant surge” in the number of plaintiffs suing the company over the weedkiller Roundup when it reports earnings later this month, adding pressure on the company to seek a settlement.

I don't judge if the Roundup labelling was incorrect or not but I think that there should be a maximum award defined for such liability cases.

I find it fascinating how EPA says that it does not cause cancer. And you can get lawsuit that you did not warn possible cancer causing. I mean lets not even go there if it causes or not.
    www.epa.gov/...
IF U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it does not then it can not be companies fault of not warning. I would not be surprise that you could be sued for doing the opposite actually...
It's bizarre at best. If any justice and science based decisions are still alive then Bayer should be great long term play. Then again humans are humans... Predicting 2008 crises... Some people did go bankrupt in shorting 2008, despite they were right.

They pay a great Divedend. One would think that the company did extensive research on Monsanto prior to buying it. The company has lots of great products that are first in class. The big question is do the benefits outweigh the risk? I think the amount it has lost in market cap may be overdone. The legal team needs to figure out a way to bring and end to this horrible mess for patients and shareholders.

What logic was used to grant A BILLION DOLLARS EACH to an elderly, married couple? I wouldn't wish any illness on any person and I dont know how to say it but I hope for the best possible outcome for the rest of their lives. With that said; there HAS to be some common sense used in these situations. That amount of money can't even be spent in any reasonable way across the lives of their grandchildren!

What do we do? Panic and sell? History shows that is probably un-necessary. Phillip Morris was supposed to be finished as the lawsuits rolled in, but went on to thrive. Also BP survived that gulf oil disaster. Can Bayry weather this storm? Any good faith commentary appreciated.

I do not understand for one, how bayer/mansanto could even be the only ones liable if roundup causes cancer(many regulator agencies approved its use without a label, even removing it). Second why are they in some side show trial, if scientific evidence says roundup does not cause cancer, for now it doesn't.
